Prayer of Alignment

November 6, 2018

This is a very simple prayer to call myself into proper alignment with God for His leading me through the day; communion with God as well as alignment of spirit, soul, and body within myself.

The order of expressing our multiple dimensions is generally stated as body, soul and spirit. I believe, however, that the spirit should come first as that is my point of communication with God. I believe that I ought to be led by my spirit as it is in communion with God, that is, constant communication with God between my spirit and Holy Spirit.

But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.

Galatians 5:16

Shown here is an alignment calling for the spirit to be over the flesh. I am called to walk according to the Spirit. If I am truly following the leading of Holy Spirit, this verse says, then I will not fulfill the desires of the flesh. Who is in the lead? Holy Spirit or my fleshly desires, the flesh? It is my spirit that communicates with Holy Spirit, therefore, my spirit needs to lead the way being in submission to Holy Spirit.

Satan would love to have my soul on top since any strongholds of the enemy are formed in the mind. Also, poor choices are usually the result of being controlled by emotions. And what better way for the enemy to throw my life into disarray than to have my flesh in charge and satisfying all my fleshly desires. I am called to deny myself and die daily on that cross.

And He said to all, “If anyone would come after Me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.”

Luke 9:23

Here again we see the alignment of putting down the flesh. It is at the bottom as I die to it on a daily basis. As mentioned earlier, the spirit is above the flesh.

Further, by means of repentance and prayer, all hooks of the enemy that are in my soul need to be removed. They are strongholds. Strongholds, or hooks, allow the enemy to modify my behavior as I find it difficult, if not impossible, to be free from outside influence.

For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out. For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I keep doing.

Romans 7:18-19

This influence barrages my soul until I find myself in sin and wonder how I got there. I find myself once again crying for forgiveness and feeling the condemnation that is being heaped upon me by Satan and his minions. I cannot retain strongholds as pets. They must be destroyed! Anything that comes between me and the Lord must be done away with. Strongholds lead to idolatry. I cannot serve God and worship an idol at the same time. The only answer is to remove the idol if I desire to have a relationship with God.

For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and spirit, of joints and marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. And no creature is hidden from His sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.

Hebrews 4:12-13

Here God shows the spirit and soul as separate parts of my whole being. They can be separated one from the other. My tangible body houses the intangible parts, the spirit and the soul.

But he who is joined to the Lord becomes one spirit with Him.

1 Corinthians 6:17

Almighty God, my Creator, is above all. God is Spirit. Holy Spirit communicates with my spirit, which puts my spirit at the top of my being. My soul is redeemed, restored, as Holy Spirit works with and through my spirit. My mind needs to be renewed.

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Romans 12:2

The flesh is to be crucified daily, and being dead, is at the bottom of my being. The center is what remains for my soul; mind, will, emotions.

If my flesh leads me through my day, it has not been crucified; I have not died to it daily.

If my soul leads me through my day, my mind is in control and susceptible to the strongholds the enemy has established in my life.

If my spirit leads me through my day, I am under the protection of the blood of the Lamb of God as I have been born from above; my spirit born to everlasting life.

If I ignore this concept or prayer, I am rolling the dice, betting on myself to succeed in leading me through life in a way that is pleasing to God. This leads to idolatry as I put myself on the throne over my life rather than inviting God to be seated on that throne over my life that is in proper alignment under Him; under my Creator.

The Prayer

I call forth my spirit to expand and come to the front today to lead me through this day in communion with Holy Spirit. I call my spirit to be in submission to, and to follow the guidance of, Holy Spirit. I call on my spirit to be in alignment with the plan and will of God for my life. Father, please feed my spirit the scroll for my life, that I may live out my destiny in this life.

I call on my soul and mind to be in submission to and alignment with my spirit.

I call on my body and flesh to be in submission to and alignment with my soul.

I call on my whole being to be in proper alignment under the headship of my Lord, Jesus Christ.

I appropriate the blood of the Lamb of God as my covering and protection.
