Five Signs and Five Signals

January 7, 2019

This morning as I was worshiping, I suddenly had the thought, “Five signs of heaven and five signals of heaven.” This thought had nothing to do with the worship. Therefore, assuming this was a communication from God, I asked a couple of questions.

1.      Is this something for me to figure out?

2.     Is this the Kingdom of Heaven come near?

I sensed the answer to both questions was yes. When I asked the questions, my assumption was that I would have some research to do and this would take some time. Interestingly, this all flowed together at one time immediately after I asked the questions.

·        Signs: for awareness or direction

·        Signals: alarms or attention getters

1.      The Presence of God

a.     Sign: always with me

b.    Signal: the presence “amped up”

2.     The Fruit of the Spirit

a.     Sign: reflects walking with God

b.    Signal: the expression of God working

3.     Love and Compassion: of and from God, for others

a.     Sign: displays the presence of God

b.    Signal: “focused”, it signals God wanting to do a work

4.    Heart’s Desire for Communion/Fellowship with God

a.     Sign: one drawing closer to God; forgetting self

b.    Signal: being prepared to do the work of God

5.     Empathy for Others

a.     Sign: a sign of the flow of the love of God

b.    Signal: prepared for the move of the hand of God

These are not necessarily the only signs and signals and they are not in any particular order. They do naturally work together, and greater moves of God can be expected as more of the signs and signals appear together.

These items are related to the verses concerning hungering and thirsting for God. That is, seeking intimacy with Almighty God; Father, Son, Holy Spirit.

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.”

Matthew 5:6

The blessing is that as I seek God, the interaction between God and myself increases. I am to knock, seek, and ask. It makes sense that He would open, reveal, and answer.

“Come, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and he who has no money, come, buy, eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.”

Isaiah 55:1

I am to come and transact business with God on a spiritual level. It cannot be purchased but is given when I hunger and thirst for the things of God.

“For the bread of God is He who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.” They said to Him, “Sir, give us this bread always.” Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.”

John 6:33-35

Jesus is the bread of life. He is the one I need to seek to satisfy my spiritual desires, including fellowship with God. This is so much more than the salvation experience.

O God, You are my God; earnestly I seek You; my soul thirsts for You; my flesh faints for You, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.

Psalms 63:1

It does take some effort on my part. It doesn’t just happen. I must pursue it as though I am desperate for God as a person dying of thirst desires water.

I stretch out my hands to You; my soul thirsts for You like a parched land. Selah

Psalms 143:6

Again, the desperation of my soul for the things of God and His fellowship.

As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for You, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?

Psalms 42:1-2

The two things I truly need to learn to do properly:

1.      Worship God in Spirit and in Truth

2.     Develop an Intimate Relationship with Almighty God

But seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

Matthew 6:33

So, here is the heart of the matter. What, and Who, is first in my life? Whose interests take priority in my life? Am I seeking what God can do for me, or am I seeking God in relationship? Am I seeking God so He can apply His power to what I want in my life, or am I seeking what He wants done in my life?

All to often in my life I have answered one way but then lived another. I need to seek Him in relationship and His righteousness standards in my behavior if I want to see His presence and power, signs and signals, in my life. If I claim to live for Him, I need to actually do so.
